About

This blog is about a transition from casual to more competitive CCG gaming.

I (the author) am a 33 year old Network Engineer whose hobbies revolve around games of all types.  I’m also deeply competitive.   During many years of playing Video games, RPGs, CCGs, Mini’s games, etc, I’ve dabbled in competitive gaming and have always enjoyed it.  I am now trying to get involved in playing Magic The Gathering, the grandaddy of collectible card games, on a higher level.  Specifically, I will be playing online on MTGO.  If you really want to know more about me, I posted about it when I started the blog.

At least at this time, I’m not going to talk here about the fact that I love my wife, and cats, or cooking, or that time I went camping, although all of these things are important parts of my life.  The focus here will be on something I would actually enjoy reading about someone I didn’t know, which is my attempt to go from a mediocre player who messes around with the game to one who wins tournaments.

I haven’t yet fully established the format that I’ll be using to do this, but hopefully things will become polished with time.  I’ll be making some effort to make the site interesting, possibly with media other than text at some point, but I am trying to make a point of not letting the act of keeping the blog get in the way of the objective itself.  Hopefully it will be helpful to me as a way for other MTG players to give feedback that keeps me improving my game.  When and if people begin reading about what I’m doing, please feel free to go back through the posts and make comments about how you feel I can improve if you have some advice to impart.

This site is partially inspired by both www.draftbetter.com and Patrick Chapin, author of ‘Next Level Magic’.
